Chapter 241: Chapter 241: Sienna Everett Finds Out the Truth
The doctor emerged from the emergency room, raising a hand to wipe the nervous sweat from his forehead.
Sienna Everett and Keith Sterling immediately crowded around him.
"Doctor, how is he?" Sienna Everett asked hastily.
Mr. and Mrs. Sterling also hurried over, helping Master Forrester.
The doctor looked at the group. He couldn’t afford to offend any of them. He spoke carefully and patiently, "The wounds on the patient’s back have been treated and bandaged. They’re not a major concern for now. The more difficult issue was the blunt-force trauma to the back of his head. After proper treatment, his vital signs have stabilized. We’ll need to keep him under observation for further treatment. However, the patient is still in a coma. We’ll be moving him to a VIP ward for close monitoring."
Sienna Everett’s brow furrowed. "Doctor, when do you think he’ll wake up?"
The doctor couldn’t give a definitive answer. "We’ll have to observe him first and see how things go. If there are no complications, the patient should wake up soon."
Sienna Everett’s anxiety didn’t lessen, but she could only nod. "Okay. Thank you."
"You’re welcome. It’s our job." The doctor added another warning, "The patient’s body is covered in lacerations and puncture wounds from the shrapnel. There are too many of them, so you must be careful not to let them get wet, and watch for any signs of infection or inflammation."
"Okay, I’ll remember that." Sienna Everett committed his words to memory.
Keith Sterling, who had been listening from the side, finally let out a small sigh of relief.
The unconscious Julian Forrester was moved to a VIP ward.
The doctor set up an IV for Julian Forrester, gave a few more instructions, and then temporarily left the room.
Sienna Everett gently took his free hand, the one without the IV. But the man lay with his eyes quietly closed, his face pale, still lost in a deep sleep, unable to offer her the slightest response.
Master Forrester walked to the bedside. Seeing his grandson lying motionless and unconscious, it would be a lie to say he wasn’t worried.
As an old man, his greatest fear was seeing his children and grandchildren suffer.
"Grandpa, I’m sure my brother will be awake by tomorrow morning. Don’t worry too much," Keith Sterling said reassuringly, then looked at his parents. "Dad, Mom, you two shouldn’t worry too much either."
Mrs. Sterling nodded and looked at Sienna Everett by the bed. The young woman kept her head down, her eyes fixed on Julian Forrester without blinking. She was so quiet it was as if she wasn’t making a sound, lost in her own thoughts.
Mrs. Sterling’s heart went out to her. As a fellow woman, she thought she might have more luck consoling her.
Mrs. Sterling walked over and patted Sienna Everett’s shoulder. "Sienna, don’t be too anxious. The best doctors and specialists in the hospital are here. They’ll do everything they can to take care of Julian’s health. You mustn’t worry yourself sick."
Sienna Everett’s eyelashes trembled. She nodded lightly. "I know. Thank you."
Mrs. Sterling sighed softly and said no more.
Mr. Sterling came over, took his wife’s hand, and gave her a look. ’This is a matter for the young couple. More words are useless. Think about it—her husband is injured and in a coma. How could a wife not be worried?’
Keith Sterling saw his parents holding hands and was completely unfazed. His parents had always been affectionate; he was used to being force-fed their public displays of affection at home anyway.
Sienna Everett received a call from Fabian Vance asking about Julian Forrester’s condition, so she gave him a brief update.
Fabian Vance wanted to come visit, but it was already very late, so Sienna Everett told him not to.
The night outside the window was deep and dark.
Before they knew it, it was past midnight.
Keith Sterling glanced at the time and couldn’t help but suggest, "Grandpa, Dad, Mom, Sierra and I will stay and keep watch. You all should go home and get some rest."
Sienna Everett spoke up as well. "Yes, Grandpa, you should go home first."
Making the elderly stay up all night was too much for their bodies to handle.
Master Forrester was still too worried and wanted to stay. "It’s fine. Your grandpa’s body is still strong!"
Sienna Everett pressed her lips together and tried to persuade him, "Grandpa, Julian wouldn’t be able to rest easy if he woke up and saw you like this. Please go home for now. I’ll call you immediately if anything happens."
Keith Sterling immediately nodded and added a few more words of persuasion.
Master Forrester, Mr. Sterling, and Mrs. Sterling had no choice but to leave the ward, repeatedly reminding Keith Sterling to call them immediately if there was any change.
Keith Sterling readily agreed.
The hospital room gradually fell silent, leaving only Sienna Everett and Keith Sterling.
Sienna Everett sat down by the bed and held Julian Forrester’s hand, the one without the IV. She looked down at the unconscious man. His skin had a sickly pallor, and only the sound of his shallow breathing filled the air. Not even an eyelash twitched.
Keith Sterling picked up a bottle of water and twisted it open. "Sierra, want something to drink?"
Sienna Everett wasn’t thirsty, but she took it and set it aside.
Then she used a thermometer to check Julian Forrester’s temperature. Thankfully, it was normal. The wounds on his back hadn’t caused a fever or infection yet.
Keith Sterling also sat down by the bed and sighed softly.
It was past midnight now. It was supposed to be his brother and Sierra’s first wedding anniversary. But instead, this had to happen. His brother was lying unconscious in a hospital bed, unable to say even a single word to Sierra.
Keith Sterling glanced at his brother on the bed, then at Sienna Everett. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the bracelet on her wrist. Surprised for a moment, he couldn’t help but remark, "Looks like it actually worked..."
Sienna Everett didn’t understand. She was completely baffled. "What worked?"
Keith Sterling lifted his chin, gesturing toward the bracelet on her wrist.
Sienna Everett was even more confused. "What about this?"
This was the bracelet Julian Forrester had given her a while ago.
She was quite fond of the bracelet and wore it often. It was a slender silver chain strung with two red jade stones shaped like adzuki beans.
The color of the two red jade stones was exceptionally clear, and they glowed with a gentle luster. They were beautiful and pleasing to the eye.
Keith Sterling was astonished. "Sierra, you don’t know?"
"Know what? This is the bracelet your brother gave me. What about it?" Sienna Everett asked, confused, ripples spreading through her clear eyes.
"My brother didn’t tell you? That bracelet was specially blessed at a temple."
"What?" Sienna Everett froze, her eyes widening in astonishment. "Blessed?"
"Yeah. It was after he found out you were so badly injured saving Wyatt Everett. My brother’s heart was breaking for you. He isn’t a superstitious person, but he didn’t want you to ever get hurt again, so he went and had this bracelet made. His blood is mixed into the red jade stones. It’s supposed to accumulate good fortune for you and ward off disaster. And if a calamity were to strike, it would be transferred to him instead."
Sienna Everett was completely stunned, as if a nerve had been violently yanked.
’Accumulate good fortune for her and ward off disaster...’
’Even if a calamity struck, it would be transferred to him...’
’How could he do that...’
When he first gave her the bracelet, he had just said nonchalantly, "I thought it would look good on you, so I bought it."
’That liar...’
