Chapter 116: Chapter 116: Chaos Unleashed
"Yeah... The security gate and the first floor hallway, several cameras just went dark... Yes, I’ll have someone check if it’s brute-force damage or hacker intrusion..." As soon as he finished the report, a shadow dropped over him, and a military knife pressed to his neck.
The other guy, about to go check the cameras, got taken down the same way.
Jay Monroe and Dane launched a sneak attack on Team Red Tower—no clear objective, unless you count headshot points.
The military knife pressed against their throats; the next second, without hesitation, it stabbed straight into their helmets.
A wisp of blue smoke curled up.
The two stood there, stunned, their earpieces echoing two mechanical voices.
"Team Blue assault Dane, scores one point, total: 24."
"Team Blue sniper Jay Monroe, scores one point, total: 17."
"..."
Dane let go of his captive and sat at the computer.
Jay Monroe waved his military knife at the two Team Red members: "You can leave now."
Team Red’s guys stood dumbfounded, taking forever to process how they just got knocked out...
At the door, they couldn’t help but look back, blurting, "How the hell did you get in?"
The security room looked like any ordinary department, but the main door had a fingerprint lock plus defense systems; if anyone tried to pry or ram it, every malicious attack would trigger a trap—and an alarm.
These guys just waltzed in like it was nothing?
Jay Monroe gestured with his military knife as their lockpicking tool, then pointed at Dane at the computer: "See? He did it."
The two followed his glance, looked at the screen—he was hacking the surveillance system?
One guy worked his lips and said, "We have senior engineers here. Even if you hack the cameras, they’ll get them online again."
Dane turned at the words, his wickedly handsome pale face non-threatening, but his red lips curved into something almost cruel: "Well, good luck to them then."
"..."
Jay Monroe watched the two Team Red guys, unsure what expression to use.
Honestly, you couldn’t blame them for underestimating.
Dane didn’t look like some tech whiz anyway.
"..."
Why could he pull this off?
Given Dane’s family, they’re probably first in line globally to play with all these bleeding-edge gadgets.
Bet their mansion’s got these security doors—he’s been dismantling them since he could walk?
Anyway, Jay Monroe didn’t buy that Dane was some kind of brainiac; if he read a few more books, he wouldn’t have such a trash reputation on the streets of Freyos.
This guy—pure trouble.
But when it came to breaking stuff, Jay Monroe trusted Dane; once he got his hands on something, there’s no fixing it for real.
Jay Monroe and Dane left the surveillance room, hearing the corridor’s alarm summoning everyone, so they headed straight for the assembly hall.
The Team Red commander got the report: cameras on the security gate and first-floor hallway were dead. It happened within minutes, so they needed to confirm if it was vandalism or hacking.
The commander favored hacking—it was safer to assume, since the defense system was active and any forced entry would trigger a blaring alarm.
Hearing Team Blue’s headshot scores at night just piled on the gloom.
The Team Red commander, cautious and suspicious as hell, didn’t hesitate—had them hit the assembly alarm.
The hall quickly filled up.
The commander stood up front, about to have someone check and report on the first-floor corridor status.
No one noticed the two shadows perched above at the windows.
Jay Monroe and Dane, hidden in the dark, guns trained on the assembly hall; they wanted to pop the commander’s head—lose the brain, Team Red would go to hell.
But because of the building layout, they could only see people in the outer crowd. The commander’s spot was blocked by the corridor—couldn’t even catch a glimpse.
They waited patiently for ages, but the Team Red commander never showed up.
Just then, a ticking sound came through their earpieces—news from the four-person watch squad.
Boland: "Dalton, Monroe, there are two Team Red troop vehicles heading for Team Red Tower."
Dane and Jay Monroe stayed silent.
Renee Morgan, who was online, responded: "Got it!"
Dane and Jay Monroe knew time was running out, guns aimed at the hall—
"Bang, bang..."
"Bang, bang..."
The gunshots hit—the crowd scattered, pulling their own weapons and searching frantically.
The Team Red commander got tackled under a table, helmet smacking the corner, head spinning, as his earpiece blasted mechanical scoring.
"Team Blue assault Dane, scores one point, total: 25."
"Team Blue sniper Jay Monroe, scores one point, total: 18."
"..."
"..."
"Team Blue assault Dane, scores one point, total: 29."
"Team Blue sniper Jay Monroe, scores one point, total: 23."
Those two again!
Everyone, including the Team Red commander, loathed those names, sick to death of them.
All the chaos in their building—thanks to those two, like rabid dogs.
Jude, amid the crowd, was first to pinpoint Dane and Jay Monroe’s location, signaling the others to split and surround.
Dane and Jay Monroe stashed their guns and dashed for the stairs, running into Team Red squads heading up. Almost in sync, they slung their guns behind them.
Dane propped himself one-handed on the stair rail, kicked the Red guy’s weapon away with a long leg, pinned him, and stabbed the military knife into his helmet.
"Team Blue assault Dane, scores one point, total: 30."
At the same moment, Jay Monroe moved like a phantom—one blurred figure dropped the guy to the floor, and stabbed the helmet with his knife.
"Team Blue sniper Jay Monroe, scores one point, total: 24."
The two Team Red guys clutched their chests and crawled up, looking half-dead.
Jay Monroe tucked his knife into his waist, walked past them, lifting his fringe—starry eyes flashed a grin, lips quirking: "Thanks, guys."
"..." Can he get any more obnoxious?
Jay Monroe and Dane exited the security gate, just about to climb over the wall and leave, when they ran straight into the patrol squads massed at the bottom of the steps.
The patrol squad crouched in rows, clearly waiting—everyone raised their rifles at Monroe and Dane’s heads...
Standing out in the open, Jay Monroe and Dane quickly ducked, rolled on the ground, and dove into the backyard bushes.
"Bang!" A shot rang out above.
"..."
The patrol members glanced at each other—who fired?
Shooting without aiming for a helmet? That’s just wasting ammo.
