“Mom!”
Mrs. Vance was so furious she felt a wave of dizziness. She swayed and nearly collapsed. Fortunately, Ivy Vance caught her just in time, preventing her from falling to the floor.
“What are you doing? Trying to run an extortion scam?” Fiona Linton’s mouth fired off like a machine gun, not giving Mrs. Vance a single chance to retort. “We have security cameras here. At your age, and dressed like you are, you clearly aren’t some ordinary commoner. Don’t tell me you make a living by pulling injury scams?”
Mrs. Vance’s ears were ringing. Her brain buzzed as the entire world spun around her.
Seeing this, Ivy hurriedly cried out, “Someone help! Doctor, nurse!”
Several nurses quickly ran over and helped Mrs. Vance to a seat nearby. A doctor also hurried over, performed a brief check-up on her, and asked, “Does she have a history of heart disease?”
Ivy shook her head. “No.”
Fiona crossed her arms and studied Mrs. Vance’s complexion. She let out a soft scoff, then turned to Chloe Reed. “Don’t worry, she’s not going to die. She’s just furious at me.”
Standing off to the side, Daniel Hayes couldn’t help but give her a thumbs-up. His eyes were filled with deep admiration. “Doctor Linton, you’re amazing. Not only are you incredible at traditional medicine, but your scolding skills are top-notch, too.”
Fiona giggled. “My parents always told me that you can never have too many skills.”
Daniel’s mouth twitched. He wondered if that was really how the saying was supposed to be interpreted. Still, Fiona’s sharp tongue was definitely a good way for her to protect herself. Right now, she was also using it to protect Chloe, which was an excellent thing indeed.
Chloe gave her a grateful look.
Fiona winked at her playfully, leaving Chloe entirely speechless.
Mrs. Vance was indeed dizzy from anger, but she quickly recovered. She shot Fiona a resentful glare, though her tone softened a fraction. “How exactly did my son get injured?”
“You can ask him yourself when he wakes up,” Fiona replied. “Why are you asking us?”
Mrs. Vance choked on her words once again.
Ivy directed a cold, dark look at Chloe. “It was you, wasn’t it? My brother was dragged down by you, wasn’t he?”
Fiona frowned slightly.
Chloe looked back at Ivy calmly. Even meeting the resentment and icy hostility in the other woman’s eyes, she didn’t take it to heart. Naturally, she had no intention of answering the question.
Ivy clenched her hands at her sides, the hatred in her heart deepening. “Bitch!” she cursed inwardly. “Why is she putting on an act? Once Walker Grant abandons her, she’ll just be a street rat everyone wants to beat!”
Just then, the special assistant walked out. “Mrs. Vance, Ms. Vance, Mr. Vance is awake.”
Mrs. Vance stood up immediately, and Ivy supported her as they hurried inside. Chloe followed them in.
Preston Vance was indeed awake. He looked toward them, his brow furrowing. “Mom, why are you here?”
Mrs. Vance cried out tearfully, “Preston, how did you get hurt? Everything was fine, so how could this happen?”
“It was just an accident,” Preston said. “You don’t need to worry. I’m fine, so you two should go back first.”
Then, his gaze fell on Chloe’s face. Seeing her eyes filled with concern, he gave her a faint smile and added, “I’m okay.”
Seeing him like this made Mrs. Vance’s expression turn even uglier. She scolded, “Preston, snap out of it! She is a married woman. If you get tangled up with someone like her, don’t you care about your reputation anymore?!”
Preston frowned slightly. “Mom, please go back. You don’t need to meddle in my affairs.”
“How could I do that?” Mrs. Vance insisted stubbornly. “I’m not leaving. I need to stay and take care of you.”
