Chapter 175: Chapter 175: The Same

Hua Buwan took one look at Ling Qianjun’s expression and knew exactly what was on his mind.

Crossing her arms in a huff, she said solemnly, "Don’t look at me like that. I learned the material perfectly well. I just had bad luck, that’s all."

Hua Buwan proceeded to tell Ling Qianjun about her disastrous driving test.

It had been raining when she took the wheel. During her first attempt to overtake another vehicle, the car ahead of her suddenly threw on its hazard lights and stopped dead in its tracks... which resulted in an instant failure.

On her second attempt, just as she was accelerating, a car from the adjacent lane abruptly cut her off. She messed up her acceleration and gear shift... and failed again.

Hua Buwan was starting to regret signing up for the manual transmission test. She had initially thought that getting a manual license would allow her to drive both manual and automatic cars in the future. Little did she know, everyone told her afterward that the automatic test was significantly easier.

"Tell me, is it just my rotten luck? It was always other people getting in my way! I’m starting to think those two drivers did it on purpose! Thanks to them, I failed halfway through the course. I didn’t even get to see what the finish line looked like!"

Thinking back to the scene, Hua Buwan desperately wanted to curse those two drivers out. Thanks to them cutting her off, she now had to wait for the next test cycle. She let out a long sigh.

Listening to Hua Buwan’s explanation, Ling Qianjun offered some words of comfort. "That really wasn’t your fault. Besides, you still have four more chances. I believe in you. You’ll definitely pass next time."

Hua Buwan nodded, her enthusiasm completely restored. "I think so too. I’ll definitely pass next time.

"Before I got into the car, I even muttered a quick prayer for my ancestors to bless me. Sigh, I can’t believe I still failed!" Hua Buwan couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought.

In truth, right after she had prayed for her ancestors’ blessing, Ling Qianjun and his family had immediately flashed across her mind. She had thought that since the ancestors could barely fend for themselves right now, they likely had no power to bless her anyway.

It seemed she needed to find a new target for her prayers next time. Perhaps she should pray for the system’s blessing... She wondered if the system would be able to give her a cheat code.

Waving off these random thoughts, Hua Buwan redirected her attention back to Ling Qianjun.

"Have you arrived in Lingnan? Have you been assigned to a location yet?" Ling Qianjun had mentioned earlier that they were getting close. By her calculations, they should have arrived by now.

Ling Qianjun’s expression turned serious. "Yes, we just arrived in Lingnan. We were assigned to a place called Shijing County, specifically Haiao Village. The village allocated a stone house to us. We just finished cleaning it, which is why I’m only coming over now."

"What? Say that again? What county? What village?" Hua Buwan’s eyes nearly bugged out of her head in shock. Did she hear that correctly?

She wondered if the world was just one giant loop. Was this what they called destiny? A thread of fate spanning a thousand years?

Ling Qianjun didn’t understand why Hua Buwan’s expression had suddenly changed. She was so excited that her entire body was trembling slightly. "Shijing County, Haiao Village."

"Ah!" Hua Buwan slapped both hands over her face, her dramatic reaction bordering on theatrical as shock washed over her.

"Buwan? What’s wrong?" Ling Qianjun looked at her with concern, feeling as though she had suddenly gone a bit mad.

It took Hua Buwan a long moment to regain her senses. She stared intensely at Ling Qianjun, her lips trembling as she asked, "Do... do you know where I am in Lingnan?"

DING!

A flash of silver light seemed to strike through Ling Qianjun’s mind.

His breathing grew ragged. Could it be... could it really be...? "Shijing County? Haiao Village?!"

Tears welled up in the corners of Hua Buwan’s eyes when she heard those two names. "Yes, yes, yes! That’s exactly it! Well, not entirely. Our area used to be known as Shijing County, but now it’s called Shijing Town. But the village is still Haiao Village! It’s basically the exact same place!"
