Chapter 113 - Chapter 113: First day at the Office.

Amie was waiting for Chris at the door even before he stepped out. She was dressed in a carefully selected designer dress with a bag she had just bought and matching shoes.

She made sure everything she wore was expensive and exposed so the public could easily point it out.

When Chris came out and saw her, he let out a groan. If it weren’t for his mother, he wouldn’t bother with this at all.

Yet, he knew it was all for the greater good.

Chris moved towards the car and got in.

Amie, who had seen Chris opening the door for June countless times, was still waiting.

If he could open the door for his sugar baby, there was no way he wouldn’t do it for his baby sister.

Chris waited, but when he saw that she made no move to come inside, he rolled the window down.

"Aren’t you coming in?"

She pouted in that familiar way that usually annoyed Chris. "Won’t you help me with the door?"

Chris stared at her in disbelief. "I promise, if you don’t get in this instant, I’ll leave you standing there."

Amie gasped.

He wouldn’t dare.

But when she heard the engine of the car come alive, she hurriedly opened the door and got herself seated.

Without sparing her a glance, Chris drove off.

Vassari’s headquarters was located in the heart of the city. It was a massive skyscraper that seemed to disappear into the sky.

Amie didn’t bother hiding the awe on her face as she stared at the building.

And to think, this was just the headquarters.

This would all be hers someday.

"Come on!" Chris said when she remained standing in front of the building.

Amie positioned herself directly beside Chris in a way that made it look as if they were equals.

Immediately they stepped into the building, heads turned in their direction.

And the whole office seemed to have something to whisper about.

"Isn’t that the young Miss Vassari?"

"I heard she was thrown an introduction party."

"She’s so lucky."

"She’s so beautiful."

"Look at what she’s wearing. It must have cost a fortune."

The more they spoke, the more Amie puffed out her chest.

Chris smirked as he deliberately walked slowly so that more people could carry the gossip. It was what Serena wanted.

He took her through the private elevator meant for VIPs alone, and Amie smiled at the obvious jealousy in the eyes of the other women.

Once they were alone in the elevator, Chris detached himself from her.

He focused on his phone, sending a message to June to know how her day was going.

Amie turned to him, trying to hold his arm. "Brother, am I going to get my own office?"

Chris paused, turning towards her.

In your dreams.

"No, Amie. Mother wants you to gain experience from the very beginning. So, you’re going to be starting with the Sales and Marketing Department."

Just then, the elevator stopped.

Amie turned towards him, disbelief lacing her features.

She was the heir to this empire. How could they expect her to mingle with the lower-level staff from the Sales and Marketing Department?

Looking at her, Chris shrugged. "But if you don’t want to, you can always go back home."

Amie forced an ugly smile onto her face.

"Of course, I don’t mind. If I’m to run the company someday, it’s only right that I learn from the basics, like Mother said."

Chris smirked.

She would say anything just to remain at the office.

Chris introduced her to the head of the department, and then he was gone.

Amie stood in the middle of the open office. She had dressed with the expectation of getting her own office, her own table and desk, and probably a personal assistant.

But standing in the middle of the office with people staring at her, she dusted her dress.

"I’m Amie Vassari. The daughter of Serena Vassari."

The head of the department stared at her. "I thought it was Amie Trevor."

The office burst into chatter.

Amie scoffed. "I’m changing it soon. Better know your place and stop correcting me," she told him.

The head of the department stared at her.

Regardless of status, people were generally judged based on their performance in the group. And Chris hadn’t told him to treat her in any special way.

"Where am I supposed to sit?" she asked him.

After getting herself a seat close to the head of the department’s office, Amie placed her legs on the table and waited.

She glared at anyone who intended to bring work to her table and barely paid attention to anything.

Within the next thirty minutes, she was already tired of being in the office.

The other staff were busy and didn’t try to get closer to her after seeing the way she had spoken to the head of the department in their presence.

But Amie knew that to fulfill her goal, she needed to make friends at the office. And not just that. She also needed to know about the important things going on.

How was she supposed to learn anything when she had been dumped in the Sales and Marketing Department?

She looked around with a frown.

If she was going to get anything from this office, then she would need to change her tactics.

She dropped her legs from the desk, her eyes moving around as she tried to pick out the friendly faces.

Two ladies were close to her desk. They had been whispering and stealing glances at her.

Perfect targets.

Amie walked towards them with a smile on her face.

Soon, she introduced herself again, and the two were eager to please her.

One of them even went as far as bowing to her.

Then, out of curiosity, they asked if the rumors about the gunshot at the introduction party were true.

Looking at them, Amie could tell they were hungry for gossip.

And that would make them the perfect targets to recruit for her information network.

A wide smile took over her face.

Maybe Chris hadn’t dumped her somewhere totally useless after all.
