Chapter 105: Chapter 105: A Legendary Victory
Jay Monroe carried his sniper rifle, running while speaking to Renee Morgan over comms: "They’ve got a sniper, not Hugh."
Renee told him to be careful, then looked up and met a pair of cold, dark eyes, her brows tightened as she spat out a sentence: "Wait until they get closer, then shoot."
Dane watched the main force a hundred meters away, then turned to discuss tactics with the squad behind him.
Renee’s crouched position hadn’t changed at all.
Dane finished his discussion, about to leave, glanced back and saw Renee lying motionless, a silent ridicule showing on his face.
She just had patience.
Stiff as a log, not a trace of a sniper’s boldness.
If you ask him, she should’ve been given the ambusher role. The base division actually gave her a sniper spot, totally wasting that gun.
Dane led his team to spread out and prepare an ambush.
The kill count reports in the headset just stopped.
"Team Blue sniper Jay Monroe scores one, total 8 points."
"Team Blue assault Dane scores one, total 13 points."
"..."
"..."
"Team Blue sniper Jay Monroe scores one, total 13 points."
In that short time, Jay Monroe sniped six opponents.
The hundred meters was close; Dane fired first, and 2nd squad, hiding in the shadows, unleashed a barrage with rifles and SMGs at the people below.
Blank rounds had to hit three points atop the helmet and smoke blue before it counted as a headshot, and after all that, only a few scored. Dane’s record, as usual, was impressive—took seven heads in a row.
But this time it was Team Red’s main force. Dane couldn’t repeat last time’s glory and wipe them all out.
After their sudden hail of fire, Team Red shook off casualties fast, pinpointed their location, split into squads, and rushed toward them.
2nd squad started getting headshotted one after another; all the kill reports were Team Red scoring headshots.
Dane was fierce, but there’s only so much one man’s energy can do, and soon Team Red squads swarmed him.
Just as he was about to get headshot and knocked out, the air erupted with gunshots like a raging storm—the Team Red front assault’s head suddenly smoked blue.
The whole crowd froze for a split second.
The bullet seemed to come out of nowhere, dead accurate to the forehead, even the air felt oddly chilling.
Team Red immediately got alert, someone shouted: "Sniper, there’s a sniper in the shadows!"
A sniper’s shots sound different from the others’.
This shot saved Dane, he thought, Jay Monroe’s got pro-level skills—not like a certain woman...
His inner sarcasm hadn’t settled, when the headset’s robotic stats chimed in: "Team Blue sniper Renee Morgan scores one, total 3 points."
Dane’s dark eyes narrowed, brows knotting—just now...
So what if it’s her? Still only three points, she’s a rookie.
"Bang! Bang! Bang..."
"Team Blue sniper Renee Morgan scores 1, total 4 points."
"..."
"Team Blue sniper Renee Morgan scores 1, total 8 points."
"..."
Dane: "..."
Team Red couldn’t locate the sniper’s position, pure chaos.
The surviving 2nd squad members took the chance to retreat back to the ambush point.
This time, 2nd squad witnessed Team Red heads popping blue smoke, their numbers dropping one by one.
The kill reports in their ears started to numb.
"..."
"Team Blue sniper Renee Morgan scores 1, total 30 points."
"..."
After taking heavy losses, Team Red finally pinpointed the sniper spot, but couldn’t find anyone.
Dane: "..."
Pitch-black vision outdoors at night, can’t see a hand out at distance. All headshots are just by feel; it’s normal Team Red can’t find her.
And as for why Jay Monroe got spotted...
Well, it’s because this woman could snipe lying flat, but Jay Monroe couldn’t!!
Team Red stormed up the hillside, searching for Renee Morgan, only to find the place abandoned. As they lingered, gunshots rang out again.
"Bang! Bang! Bang..."
"..."
"Team Blue sniper Renee Morgan scores 1, total 35 points."
"..."
Team Red: "..." numb!
2nd squad members: "..."
Can they take back what they said about the little mule?
Dane: "..."
She can see at night like it’s broad daylight, sniper gear is seriously OP!!
Team Red brought a lot of people—a sniper, nearly a hundred assault, well-equipped, confident to break through the jungle route and storm Team Blue HQ, only to get wrecked by an unknown Team Blue sniper.
Actually, you couldn’t blame them. Night favors hiding; it’s tailor-made for snipers, plus the terrain advantage. Most important, Renee Morgan has an amazing skill: she can hide while sniping, making them dizzy without ever seeing her silhouette.
Team Red realized they’d underestimated their enemy, ordered an emergency retreat.
2nd squad found Renee Morgan lying in a mountain gully, whole body as limp as a vine, her long legs crossed behind her, pressed to the ground, hands hugging her sniper rifle, eyes glued to the high-power scope, watching Team Red exit the jungle before she looked away and glanced at them.
2nd squad swallowed hard, nervously broke the silence: "Little... wait, no, Renee, Renee..."
Dane crossed his arms, staring at...her sniper rifle.
If he were a wolf, his teeth would be bared, drool dripping right now.
Renee Morgan finally put away her long legs, sat up and glanced at them: "Something you want?"
2nd squad shook their heads.
Dane said nothing.
Renee Morgan considered Team Red’s retreat—they wouldn’t attack for a while: "Go find a spot to rest, I’ll watch the road. Switch in two hours."
2nd squad had no objections; they found a spot and crashed, heads down.
Dane just stayed there, unmoving.
Renee Morgan couldn’t be bothered, lazily yawned, about to resume watch, when Dane edged closer: "Renee Morgan, can we talk about something?"
Renee Morgan glanced at him, coolly: "Go ahead."
Dane didn’t mind her attitude, eyes bright: "Let me show you my SMG, you lend me your sniper rifle to check out?"
It wasn’t an unreasonable ask, so Renee Morgan agreed.
She’d read up on SMG specs in the manual; now, holding it, she realized it was actually pretty heavy.
Dane didn’t expect Renee Morgan to agree so fast—he took her sniper rifle, chambered it smoothly, aiming into the darkness...
Dane: "...Renee Morgan, does this rifle have any other features?"
Renee Morgan: "Hmm?"
Dane licked his lips: "Like, can it make things look clearer?"
Renee Morgan toyed with the SMG, shook her head: "Nope."
Dane: "..."
