Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Dane’s Background

As far as Jay Monroe knew, "Honey Badger" was notorious in Freyos—paranoid, arrogant, doesn’t get along with anyone, and loves to fight. Other people aren’t afraid of trouble, but he’s not afraid to make trouble. Out on the streets of Freyos, people prefer to call him Mad Dog—he’ll take a bite out of anyone he sees.

Renee Morgan couldn’t figure out why Jay Monroe was so nervous. She wasn’t familiar with Dane; they’d just happened to cross paths.

Jay Monroe glanced around, making sure there was nobody close behind, and prepared to talk seriously to her. "Do you know what Dane’s codename is in Freyos?"

How could Renee Morgan know?

Jay Monroe looked at her immaculate, fair face, those clear, shining eyes making him hesitate and fumble for words several times before finally speaking, still sounding a bit reserved: "He has a codename in Freyos—Honey Badger, get it?"

Renee Morgan thought for a long time before remembering that Honey Badger seemed to be... some kind of animal?

"Got it." She nodded.

Jay Monroe let out a breath—smart people really do understand fast.

Although she couldn’t fathom why someone would call themselves an animal, Renee Morgan saw how serious he looked, wrestling with the words for so long, clearly giving it lots of thought, and out of respect, sighed, "So... he’s a badger, got it..."

Jay Monroe: "..."

Might as well be dead.

Livestream chat: So... he’s a badger, got it...

[What Honey Badger? In Renee’s eyes it’s just a badger, that’s all.]

[I’m dying laughing! Jay Monroe tries to scare Renee with talk of the cruel underworld, and Renee’s just being polite—he’s just a badger, that’s it, nothing more.]

[So Dane’s codename is "Honey Badger"—that’s just a badger. Great, now the whole internet knows.]

[Hey, just came back from foreign forums with some tea—there really is a "Honey Badger" in Freyos. No clue if it’s actually Dane, but rumor is his background’s impressive. All the older men in his family are famous movers and shakers in Freyos, and he’s one of the outstanding heirs. No doubt about the family seat, but his personal reputation is... not so great.]

As for how bad—it’s so bad, nobody dares to say.

The netizens think of Dane’s devilishly handsome face and top background, and, yeah—that’s all they need!!

As for his reputation? Won’t stop them from fantasizing about hot guys.

The leaderboard was ticking up, with several new names added, but the top few were still unshakable for now.

Renee Morgan held first place with 50 kills, Hugh was second with 48.

The fans were completely used to these rankings—nowadays even the antis didn’t bother doubting Renee’s strength anymore. Anyone with eyes could see she was a late-bloomer with accumulated skill.

On foreign forums, someone edited footage of Renee’s clutch headshot into a mini-movie, broadcasting it across major platforms. In no time, it hit billions of views and became a global sensation.

The news about Dane’s codename "Honey Badger" was also doxxed by internet sleuths almost instantly.

There was little info about him personally, but records of his family were everywhere. All the older men were big shots in Freyos—rich, powerful, influential, famous. Just a quick search online brought up stories of their global exploits—their hustle was much more inspiring than "Honey Badger" himself, who was just a spoiled second-generation with a rough reputation.

By comparison, Renee Morgan—grassroots upstart—managing to stand out in the base competition felt all the more dramatic and legendary.

Team Blue’s reinforcements arrived in time. Team Red paused their offensive, stopping their charge at Team Blue’s base to regroup on the spot.

Renee Morgan, Jay Monroe, Dane, and a few other squad 2 teammates lit a campfire and gathered to discuss strategy.

They’d finally figured out where the gap between the teams lay. Team Red was great at strategy—not to mention the time Jay Monroe got trapped, but even now, they’d split their forces into two, attacking by sea and land at once. Clearly, Red’s planning was meticulous.

Team Blue’s strategy was much more conservative—they’d left a large group to hold the base, split the rest out to guard the approach, and also wanted to attack Team Red’s base. In the end, they did none of it well and got their butts kicked in confusion.

Now they needed to agree on a plan, then report it to the commander for approval before execution.

Jay Monroe glanced over: "Renee Morgan, you go first."

Renee Morgan raised a hand: "Let Dane speak before me."

Dane sat cross-legged, looking arrogant and confident: "To catch the thief, seize the king first. We can form a squad and storm Team Red’s base."

Taking down Team Red’s stronghold would count as a win—Dane had a dream.

"We..." Renee Morgan gestured at the group. "The seven of us are going to attack Team Red Tower?"

Dane raised his eyebrows at her. "Why not?"

Renee Morgan: "..." We’re here to plan a strategy, not plan our funerals.

Jay Monroe looked at Renee’s speechless face and suddenly spoke up: "With just the seven of us, taking Team Red’s HQ is really tough... but the plan might not be impossible..."

Renee Morgan and Dane both turned to him, listening intently.

Jay Monroe: "I was just watching—Red’s main force is all at Seabrook. Their base must still have some guards, but way less. We can use this chance to land and head to Team Red HQ to snatch some points."

Renee Morgan frowned at him: "So you mean, our goal isn’t the HQ itself, but just getting kill points?"

Attacking the HQ meant facing the heavy-hitting, armed units. But if it was just about racking up kills, that was a whole different game.

Jay Monroe nodded. "Most of our forces are on defense at base and won’t be in danger for a while. If the enemy learns we’re racking kills at their HQ, they’ll totally panic, scramble their plans—"

No matter how slick your tactics, someone tossing chaos into the mix is gonna wreck your flow, right?

Renee Morgan: "But... How do we get ashore?"

Both team’s ships were docked on either side of Seabrook, and there were guards posted at every checkpoint. If they showed up at Team Red’s checkpoint, they’d be caught instantly.

Jay Monroe had thought of this too—he furrowed his brows, "We need a way to get over there."

Renee Morgan: "The only way we’d get waved through by Red’s checkpoint is if we were their people. Maybe we could try to get Red team’s gear—like their red uniforms."

Jay Monroe raised his eyebrows, looked at her: "Wouldn’t that break the rules?"

By the rules, if you got headshotted, only your designated bullets and food would transfer to the killer as loot—everything else reset and you were out. No chance to get someone’s uniform.

The only way to get one was to capture a Red Team player alive and take their gear—then you’d have a disguise to sneak past their checkpoint.

Dane seemed to realize something and shook his head. "No go, they check IDs at the checkpoint—we’d never make it through."

"That won’t work. We’ll have to go by land," he said.
