Chapter 113 - Chapter 113: Instructor

Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Instructor

"Bang!" A gunshot suddenly blasted in their earpieces.

They almost instinctively ducked, scanning their surroundings, thinking Team Blue was attacking.

This isn’t right...

Hugh’s five fingers gripping the cabin door instantly tightened, his fingernails turning white. ℯℯ𝑙.

A mechanical count sounded in the headset: "Team Blue Assault Bama scores one, total 3 points."

Assault—not a sniper...

It’s not her.

For some reason, Hugh actually let out a secret sigh of relief.

To him, most people in this world were like dust—utterly insignificant.

That woman—Hugh had run into her in the training base’s forest, then turned around and promptly forgot her completely.

Her name, her face, all blurred into a vaguely faded impression.

He hadn’t expected they’d meet again, here in the base’s competition zone.

Narrow paths cross—and she’s become his strongest rival.

—

Bama’s headshot score popped up, and the Team Red commander was instantly alerted.

The sea was supposed to be in a temporary ceasefire—how could Team Red just get headshotted for points out of nowhere?

Before the Red commander could question anyone, another gunshot rang in the headset, followed by a mechanical count.

"Team Blue Assault Hart scores one, total 2 points."

"..."

The Red team commander ditched his confusion, grabbed the communicator and patched through to Hugh.

Hugh, however, remained perfectly calm, speaking in a low voice: "It’s not our frontline team."

The commander cut the line, then immediately patched to the patrol teams outside, ordering a roll-call of all their squads.

Meanwhile, some distance from Team Red Tower, Renee Morgan was setting up her sniper rifle. After watching Bama and Hart headshot two Red patrol members, she said dryly, "Retreat."

The squad of four pulled out from their original position, but didn’t return to base; instead, they swapped locations to camp more kills.

Renee covered the roads from high ground, while the three assaults below moved according to her directions.

On the other side, Jay Monroe and Dane had snuck in near Team Red Tower, but hadn’t spotted a soul in ages.

Hearing that Renee’s squad was scoring headshots one after another, Jay couldn’t help but patch her in for a quick line.

The comms connected quickly.

Jay was just about to ask why Renee wasn’t moving, when her lazy voice drifted through:

"Bama, go right. Hundred meters out. You think you can hit it?" she asked.

Bama nodded desperately. "Yeah, yeah, got it..."

He was terrified of hesitating a second and losing his shot before Renee called it off.

"OK! Hold, you can fire now." After estimating the distance, Renee curled her lips into a smile.

"Bang, bang..." Bama missed his first shot, fired again and again, and only when he saw blue smoke bursting from the target’s helmet did he wipe his sweating forehead and finally sigh in relief.

Jay paused for a beat, then the familiar mechanical voice came through the headset—Bama’s headshot points...

"Yeah, Jay?" Renee, not spotting any more targets nearby, took the chance to answer him.

Jay’s lips twitched, "Renee, you keeping busy?"

She hardly made a sound—and she’s here playing instructor for everyone?

Renee: "...and you’re not?"

"..."

The livestream chat was getting restless; they’d seen Renee "hold back" for ages—it was always the other assaults scoring headshots, which left viewers pretty disappointed.

The past day, Renee, Jay Monroe, and Dane’s seven-member group had trekked all day and only managed to sneak past Team Red’s border by dawn.

Team Red had totally wrecked Team Blue at sea.

Now, on the livestream leaderboard, Team Red had three spots in the top four.

First, Team Red sniper Hugh, 80 points.

Second, Team Red assault Kennedy, 63 points.

Third, Team Blue sniper Renee Morgan, 50 points.

Fourth, Team Red assault Louis, 35 points.

...

How was Team Blue supposed to catch up with that ranking?

After muting the line, Jay notified Dane to change spots.

They were already close to Team Red Tower—any deeper, and they’d be in deadly territory.

Anyone else would have bailed and gone home rather than plunge into the danger zone.

But Jay and Dane were two adventure junkies who thrived on this stuff.

The other assault duo from Group 2 had zero complaints—they didn’t have a captain, but by default followed Dane’s lead. Whatever he said, they did.

Otherwise, none of them would’ve joined Dane and Jay’s crazy mission to sneak into Team Red’s zone.

The Red commander soon verified the headshot victims—they were all patrols securing Team Red Tower’s perimeter routes.

Team Blue had clearly infiltrated Team Red’s territory.

Team Red Tower was now in full alert—Defense Level One sounded.

It was only a handful of patrols taken out, but the situation was obviously dire.

Even the planned noon assault against Team Blue’s gate, the landing mission, all got canceled on the spot.

At that moment, Jay, Dane, and their trio advanced and stopped just a wall away from Team Red Tower.

Team Blue’s base had a defense system; naturally, so did Team Red’s, and Jay and Dane weren’t dumb enough to charge right in.

But spotting a Team Red patrol coming out, the three didn’t hesitate—they tailed them until they were a safe distance from the Tower, then all three pulled their triggers at once.

The patrols already knew Team Blue had breached their lines—and that patrols had been picked off, head after head.

But no one expected the enemy would be so outrageous as to ambush them right in front of Team Red Tower.

Completely caught off guard, the eight-man patrol froze for a second after the gunshots, then scrambled, rifles raised, looking all around—only to get their helmets blown off, heads erupting in blue smoke, out of the game in chaos.

Both teams’ comms were instantly filled with mechanical scoring announcements.

"Team Blue assault Dane, one point up, total 21."

"Team Blue sniper Jay Monroe, one point up, total 14."

"Team Blue assault Boland, one point up, total 4."

"..."

"Team Blue assault Dane, one point up, total 23."

"Team Blue sniper Jay Monroe, one point up, total 16."

"Team Blue assault Boland, one point up, total 5."

In that eight-man patrol, Jay and Dane each took three heads, and Boland took two.

Gunshots right outside the tower meant someone quickly assembled a squad to give chase.

Jay, Dane, and Boland reveled in the rush of headshots—but before they were fully clear, Team Red’s main force charged out after them.

Jay, clutching his sniper rifle, shouted to Dane and Boland: "Split up! Rally at base!"

The three took off in separate directions, and the pursuing Red troops fanned out after them, splitting into three squads.

At the same time, Team Red’s commander rushed back to the conference room for a video meeting with the Red forces at sea.

The sea squad had also heard the string of kill reports over comms.

They all knew Jay and Dane had infiltrated Team Red’s territory.

The whereabouts of the missing Renee Morgan were now all but clear.
