Chapter 129 - Chapter 129: Plan 2

Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Plan 2

"Hugh won’t be going for reinforcement." Dane spoke with certainty, then continued, "From what we know now, the Team Red commander will probably have Louis lead the reinforcement team."

They all knew who Louis was—the third-ranked headshot scorer in Team Red’s assault squad.

The others listened, captivated, nodding in agreement with his analysis.

Dane: "If it’s Louis leading, and Team Red doesn’t have a sniper, it’ll be much easier for us to break up their main reinforcement force."

The others instantly perked up, quickly pricking up their ears, eager to hear what exactly made it so easy.

"..."

A few minutes later, Dane stopped talking, took a sip from his water bottle, then looked at Jay Monroe and Renee Morgan, "Ahem... What do you two think?"

Renee Morgan nodded without hesitation, "I agree with the second plan. Like you said, if we go with the first plan, we won’t be able to take down Team Red Tower, and we can’t handle the main reinforcement force they send out. Direct confrontation is too risky; we should use our brains instead."

Jay Monroe nodded as well, "I agree with the second plan. According to your analysis, the Team Red commander values the safety of Team Red base above all else, so Hugh has to stay at the base, to prevent us from attacking Team Red Tower. Without Hugh supporting the reinforcement team, it’ll be much easier for us to break apart their support."

Once they had the overall plan, they worked out the details, then contacted the Team Blue commander.

The Team Blue commander listened to Dane’s overall plan and was very impressed, gave his approval, and ordered everyone to cooperate.

When the call ended, night had already fallen.

Hugh and his team had just come back from offshore today. They’d been ambushed on the way, so by the time they returned to the tower, it was already dark.

They had just gotten back, when the Team Red commander urgently called everyone to the conference hall for a meeting.

According to today’s intel, the main force of Team Blue had already reached the border of Team Red’s territory and set up camp on the nearby mountain.

With a single command, Team Blue’s main force would breach Team Red’s border defenses.

The situation was extremely dangerous.

They needed to immediately dispatch armed troops for reinforcement.

Hugh and Louis didn’t hesitate, volunteering right away to reinforce the border defenses.

The Team Red commander shot them both a deep look, then finally agreed to let Louis lead the reinforcement team.

"Hugh, you stay at the tower. Our tower’s defense system has been damaged. If they take advantage and come again, and the tower falls, it’ll be too late." The commander said in a grave tone.

Hugh frowned, "Jay Monroe and Renee Morgan’s elite squad will coordinate with Team Blue’s main force to breach the border. They won’t attack our tower for now."

Team Red commander: "Whether they will or not, I feel at ease with you here. Let Louis lead the reinforcement team. I heard this time they’re bringing a force of over a hundred men. We’ll send one hundred and fifty for reinforcement. With the border guards, we’ll have enough to match them."

Hugh pressed further, "Commander, if we want to win, it’s not just about pushing back their main force—we should seize the chance to wipe them all out..."

The commander’s gloomy gaze fixed on him, "Our force of nearly two hundred can’t wipe them out completely. What good would it do with you there?"

Louis looked at the commander, then at Hugh’s icy demeanor, stepped forward and patted him on the shoulder, offering comfort.

The commander seemed to sense he’d been too harsh, and spoke softer, "We have men left at customs, and the border. The tower only has just over two hundred. If one hundred fifty go for reinforcement, we’ll only have a few dozen in the tower. If you’re not here, and Renee and Jay Monroe attack during that window, who could go up against them?"

Hugh reviewed the outcome he could foresee, "They won’t attack the tower at this moment..."

Team Red commander: "How can you be so sure they won’t?"

"I care more about this battle at the border than anyone else. Otherwise, I wouldn’t send so many for reinforcement. Keeping you from going isn’t a matter of doubting your skill. The tower matters more—it needs you. You’re the only one who can counter Renee and Jay Monroe."

Hugh remembered how last time, Jay Monroe and Dane ambushed Team Red Tower, which hit the commander hard. If they’d had just one sniper able to counter them, Team Red wouldn’t have suffered so much.

Seeing the commander’s determination, Hugh fell silent, shutting his mouth without protest.

Louis was entrusted with the critical task—to lead one hundred fifty to reinforce the border defense, hold the defensive line, and strike Team Blue’s main force.

After the meeting, Louis gathered the team for the mission tomorrow, deploying the reinforcement plan.

Team Blue’s main force had already arrived at their border. They were supposed to head out tonight, but they’d just gotten back from offshore, were ambushed along the way, worn out after a full day, so couldn’t rush out overnight. They needed to regroup and rest for a few hours before heading out.

After explaining the general plan, Louis dismissed the team to rest. When he opened the door, he saw Hugh leaning against the doorway, looking forlorn and cool. Hearing the sound, Hugh looked up at him, "Want to go up for a walk?"

Louis nodded and joined him up on the tower’s rooftop.

They sat on the stairs, heads raised toward the vast night sky—the night was beautiful, stars hanging from the moon, close enough to touch.

They sat there quietly for a long time, neither saying a word.

Louis was the first who couldn’t hold back, "Hugh, are you worried about us?"

Hugh withdrew his gaze from the stars, and looked at Louis.

He wasn’t really worried about anyone—he only cared about winning and losing.

He knew clearly that Team Blue’s elite squad, meaning Jay Monroe and Renee Morgan, wouldn’t attack their tower at this moment.

The commander, by keeping him at Team Red Tower now, was basically locking the sword away in its scabbard.

If Team Red lost their sword, how much of a chance would they have to win?

"Jay Monroe and Renee Morgan’s elite squad will definitely help Team Blue’s main force cross the border, and do everything they can to hinder your reinforcement." Hugh said slowly.

Louis nodded, "I’ll follow your advice. I’ll get to the border as quickly as possible to prevent them from crossing."

In numbers, they had a decisive advantage. Jay Monroe and Renee Morgan were deadly snipers, but still couldn’t avoid being shot in the head themselves.

Both sides had their worries. They couldn’t let a string of defeats weigh them down.

Louis patted Hugh’s shoulder, saying a few words to comfort him.

Hugh noticed what Louis was thinking, wanted to say something, but felt extra words would be pointless, his eyes tinged with defeat.

Louis kept patting his shoulder, "Hugh, don’t worry. I will definitely hold the border with my team. They won’t get through. This time, we’re going to win for sure."
