"Brother is complimenting how cute you are."
Lily Turner spoke before Easton Holmes could say anything, knowing he would surely favor their daughter; she couldn’t let him have his way.
If he spoils his daughter, then she will spoil her son.
However, Evie wasn’t satisfied with her mom’s explanation. Tilting her head, she continued complaining to her dad, "Dad! Brother called me an idiot, you have to avenge me."
Lily Turner also tilted her head, watching Easton Holmes to see how he would help their daughter bully their son. If he dared to hit—no!—if he dared to scold their son even once today, she’d turn against him.
"Brother didn’t call Evie an idiot, brother just thinks Evie is too cute and was just playing with her."
Sophia Wood seemed to notice something amiss and promptly hugged Evie, who was sitting beside her. She explained in the softest tone she could muster.
To avoid Evie being unrelenting, Sophia decided to distract her with her favorite shrimp balls, "Isn’t Evie the one who loves shrimp balls the most? Grandma will get you one."
Faced with her favorite food, Evie immediately forgot about her brother calling her an idiot. Looking at the shrimp ball in her little dish, she glanced at the big plate, "Grandma! I want more."
"Okay, Grandma will get you two more."
As long as she could distract the little one, Sophia was ready to bring over an entire plate of shrimp balls.
Seeing his mother-in-law pacify his complaining daughter, Easton Holmes breathed a sigh of relief. If his daughter kept tattling to him, he honestly wouldn’t know what to do.
On one hand, there was his wife and son; on the other, his daughter—all close to his heart, and he couldn’t bear to offend any of them.
Easton Holmes grasped Lily Turner’s hand under the table, and squeezed it tightly after doing so, silently reassuring her not to quarrel with him over favoring either their son or daughter.
Lily Turner, however, completely ignored him, pulled her hand away, and turned towards her son, "An An! After dinner, hurry and do your homework, okay?"
"Got it, Mom!"
An An agreed cheerfully, looking at his mom with eyes full of happiness and obedience, completely unlike his cold and stubborn glance towards his dad.
Easton Holmes watched the interaction between mother and son, his heart filled with helplessness and affection.
"In-laws! You see how cute our three little ones are; don’t you both feel anxious?" Sophia Wood’s gaze moved from Cedric Fisher and Autumn York to Alice Turner and Thomas Fisher, her look making Alice tremble.
Her mom was stirring things up!
Alice Turner didn’t dare glance around, staring intently at the food on the table while her ears were perked up to listen carefully for any nearby commotion.
"Of course I’m worried. I’ve long wanted to hold such adorable grandchildren," Cedric Fisher obviously grasped Sophia’s meaning, and pointed at the three cute kids. He genuinely wished to hold grandchildren, but his son had only just gotten married.
Inwardly, Autumn York greatly hoped to hold grandkids sooner, but faced with Sophia Wood’s ’little plot’, she remained indifferent, keeping her silence without expressing any opinion.
Thomas Fisher couldn’t help but beam with joy, worried about how to persuade Alice Turner to go home with him later, but to his surprise, his mother-in-law was so supportive. He immediately held her hand, "Parents! Alice and I certainly won’t disappoint you. The two of us will strive to bring you adorable little ones like An An and the others sooner."
