Chapter 170 - Chapter 170-So lucky

Chapter 170: 170-So lucky

"I can’t believe that you get to live here," Sapphire rolled to the side of the bed, admiring it for the millionth time. "You’re so lucky, babe."

Maisa didn’t feel lucky. The word was foreign to her like a myth she’d read about in books and forget about in the morning.

Her life was a magnet for drama. Even the smallest of actions drew attention to her. The wrong kind. Every measure she takes to solve one problem returns out to trigger another.

"I would give an arm and a leg to have your life girl," she went on.

And Maisa, she would give more than that to have a different life. At present, everything in her life was going haywire.

Her blood was poisoned as a result of trusting that manipulative whiteblood and practising elemental magic were harmful to her mates. She didn’t know how it hurt them, Taratoya hadn’t clarified, but she just knew that it did.

Worse, she had lost touch with her zing. Even the feelings in her that were growing for Varitreya, Lumi, Zolani, and Addessa had faded in that time without her notice.

Her first love had turned into a distant memory, and she hadn’t realized it going down until Taratoya pointed it out. Now, she was at a loss of how to undo everything and return to the past.

Suffering the backlash was painful and horrifying, but at least she had her feelings intact and grew through every experience.

"So, how did you and Freya meet?"

"..."

Maisa was pulled deeper and deeper into her mind. A place where the weight of her problems was bigger than her and she couldn’t hear Sapphire.

Sapphire nudged her side. Maisa blinked and broke her daze before returning to the current moment.

"Did you say something?"

Sapphire sat up and stopped admiring the room for a moment. She eyed Maisa for a long time and felt like the burdens on this slender shoulders were more than a normal vampire could carry.

If one overlooked the pretty privileges that Maisa was getting on the surface, they’d see that her life wasn’t a walk in the park.

"What happened to you this time?" She inquired with worry.

"What do you mean?"

"You look fine and sound fine, but you aren’t fine..." she had read Maisa since the moment she saw her coming down the royal carriage.

Most students focused on the glamorous moment and their envy of how she gets to roam with the big shots, but as Maisa’s best friend, she knew better than to believe her eyes alone.

She had rode with Maisa and the student council on the way to old scaris and had seen how nasty the so-called fiery four can get.

"I am your best friend. You can trust me with anything, and I won’t tell anyone," she held Maisa’s hand and gave it a squeeze. "Why don’t you tell me what I troubled you and how you are related to the fiery four."

"Why do you want to know that so suddenly?"

"As your friend, I get pulled into your life and drama, and since I’ve known you... those two seem to circle around them, so can you just be honest with me?"

Maisa looked at her. Really looked. With all the secrets she carried in her heart, she hadn’t found a single soul in the vampire nation with whom she can be honest without fear of her secrets coming back to hurt her.

With Sapphire, the vampire seemed trustworthy because despite Maisa keeping secrets and only giving surface details of herself to Sapphire, the girl always stayed with her.

"I zinged..."

"What?!" Sapphire reacted before she finished.

A zing was sacred. Something that a vampire’s heart treasured beyond all else because that mate bond was for life.

She felt so happy for Maisa that she jumped on her and hugged her tightly. The move sent Maisa falling back on the bed and wrapping a hand around Sapphire to steady them.

"Relax, Sapph. You are going to crush me and this point."

"That isn’t important!" Sapphire’s voice raised so high that it nearly felt like singing. "You have zinged. That means that you have a mate. Do you know how important that is."

Important? Maisa didn’t know that, but troublesome? Definitely. She was troubled since day one that she received the zing, and things have become worse now that she is losing it.

It took a long moment for Sapphire to compose herself enough to back away and give Maisa room. Then, she moved on to the important question.

"Who is it?" She asked. Her mind immediately moved to Princess Varitreya and how strange the princess had been acting since Maisa enrolled into the academy.

She defended Maisa, fought for her, and was always just one call away. Now, it felt odd and suspiciously like a vampire protecting her mate.

"It’s..."

"Is it the princess?" Sapphire cut in with her own suspicions, and she had no idea how on point she was.

Maisa nodded.

"Aaaaaah!" Sapphire shrieked out in pure ecstacy. A redblood zinging with a whiteblood princess, that was quite a leap and a magical move that felt nearly impossible.

It was something that redblood can only dare to dream of but never dare to touch out of fear of it backfiring on them, but Maisa actually managed to pull it off.

"You are so lucky, girl.... so lucky."

"That’s not all," Maisa bit her lip. But since she had decided to be honest with her friend, she would go all the way.

"There’s more?" Sapphire’s mind went crazy with ideas.

"I didn’t just zing with Varitreya. It’s Addessa, Lumi, and Zolani too," she added.

Of all the ideas that Sapphire had thought up, she could never have come to that truth, even by a mile. One, two, three, and four. Maisa had four mates.

How was that possible? A zing connects one heart to another, two at most but four... that was a new record in the vampire nation. But suddenly, everything made sense as to why the fiery four always circled around Maisa.

"Girl, you didn’t just snag the future queen. You took the entire set of the future government," her jaw dropped and extreme shock registered in her face. "My mind... puff!" She exaggerated the sound of the explosion.

Maisa sighed. "Welcome to my world."
