Chapter 170: Chapter 170: The Sky Has Collapsed
After the jokes, everyone’s eyes fell on Ling Qianjun.
Ling Qianjun nodded, agreeing with what Xu Panqing and Ling Yunge had said.
"Mother and Yunge’s heights are indeed just right for now, though it remains to be seen if Yunge will grow taller. But there is still plenty of time. Eventually, we’ll definitely need to build an extension next door.
"Right now, we don’t have many belongings, so this small house is sufficient. However, the longer we live here, the more things we’ll accumulate. Fortunately, the courtyard is quite spacious, making it very convenient to build an addition on the side," Ling Qianjun analyzed the situation as he surveyed their surroundings.
The Ling family found his reasoning sound and couldn’t help but nod in constant agreement. Moreover, they actually really needed private spaces. It would be best for everyone to have their own room; living together right now was merely a temporary stopgap.
Next came the room assignments for Ling Qianjun and Ling Qianfan.
Ling Qianfan said matter-of-factly, "Then Qianjun and I will just sleep in the room downstairs. The bed is large enough for the two of us to rest."
Aside from this room, only the storage room was left. They couldn’t possibly squeeze into such a tiny space, could they? Besides, they needed a place to stack firewood. Ling Yunge and Xu Panqing thought the same. The kitchen wasn’t spacious enough, and since cooking required firewood, stacking it in the storage room was the best option.
To their surprise, Ling Qianjun spoke up. "I’ll stay in the storage room. Qianfan can sleep in the front room."
"Huh?" The three of them stared at Ling Qianjun in disbelief, entirely failing to understand why he would make such a decision. They all felt it would be far too unfair for him to sleep in the woodshed. Even if someone had to sleep there, it should be Ling Qianfan, not him.
Ling Yunge blurted out her exact thoughts. "Qianjun! With your height, it’s not appropriate for you to sleep in the storage room. Let Qianfan sleep there instead. He’s so short, it wouldn’t be a problem for him at all—he could even do a kip-up in there."
"Yunge!" Hearing his sister mock his height again, Ling Qianfan shouted indignantly. "You’re the short one! You’re half a head shorter than me!"
Ling Yunge sheepishly shrank back toward Xu Panqing.
Xu Panqing frowned at this moment, looking at Ling Qianjun with worry. "Jun’er, why do you want to sleep in the storage room? Wouldn’t it be better to sleep in the same room as Qianfan?"
Her mind was racing with all sorts of speculations. She wondered if the two brothers had gotten into a disagreement, prompting the desire to sleep separately. They had slept together throughout the entire journey of their exile without any issues.
Ling Qianfan stared intently at Ling Qianjun, asking just as anxiously, "Yeah, Qianjun, why won’t you sleep in that room with me?"
Ling Qianjun glanced at everyone, speaking in a flat, nonchalant tone. "Because you snore, you grind your teeth... and your limbs flail about."
"PFFT!" Ling Yunge was the first to laugh out loud.
Xu Panqing immediately looked at Ling Qianfan, recalling his sleeping habits during their rest stops on the journey.
Snoring? He did seem to snore a little.
Teeth grinding? It did seem like he was constantly chewing in his sleep, likely dreaming of food.
Flailing limbs? Come to think of it, every morning when she woke up, she would find Qianfan’s arms and legs draped all over Ling Qianjun.
Thinking of this, Xu Panqing found it hard to argue.
Since Ling Qianfan was always sound asleep, he was completely oblivious to his own behavior. He thought Qianjun was just smearing his reputation and muttered, "Qianjun, I don’t do that at all! I’m a very quiet and proper sleeper. If you don’t believe me, ask Mother and Yunge!"
However, the moment Ling Qianfan turned his head, he saw the expressions on Xu Panqing and Ling Yunge’s faces.
His world came crashing down.
