Chapter 462: Chapter 462: Could it be... Nathaniel Sloan is coming?
For her to be able to act so recklessly at Radiance, the person backing her had to be at least a core member of the company, and at most, half a rank below President Kerr.
Since Estelle Lockwood was taking over Radiance, she naturally wouldn’t tolerate any wrongdoing. She waited here not only to serve a warning but also to find an opportunity to drive these parasites out.
But it was strange.
That Ms. Sawyer kept belittling her as a "clinging vine" who only knew how to "rely on men." As someone who only got her job through connections, where did she get the audacity to say such things?
Meanwhile, in the lounge.
Ms. Sawyer obsequiously brewed a cup of tea for Claire Yeats. "Miss Yeats, please have some tea. My uncle said the meeting is over, and they should be coming down soon. Would you like to head to the reception room with me first? The handover ceremony will be held there."
Claire’s interest was piqued. "Oh?"
"Our boss said he wants to give you a grand ceremony to tell everyone that Radiance will belong to you from now on!"
Ms. Sawyer swallowed hard, fawning as she dropped a hint. "Radiance will be yours from now on. Since you’re new here, you might be unfamiliar with many things. Why don’t we..."
"In that case, you’ll be by my side from now on," Claire said.
This was exactly what Ms. Sawyer wanted!
She had always felt the position of a mere manager was too small for her. With her abilities, why couldn’t she reach President Kerr’s position? President Kerr had only gotten there because he caught the boss’s eye.
Once she curried favor with the new boss, she would be the next President Kerr!
"It’s just..." Claire let out a helpless sigh and shook her head. "I’m afraid Estelle will come and cause trouble again."
"What? She wouldn’t dare!" Ms. Sawyer said indignantly.
Claire sounded resigned. "Estelle’s temper... Sigh, her personality is just like that. If she wants something, she has to get her hands on it. Plus, Grandpa feels he owes her. Even if this matter is blown out of proportion and reaches the Yeats family, Grandpa will probably just ask me to endure it...
"Although Grandpa isn’t in Crestfall right now, the news will reach his ears one day. When that time comes, I really won’t know what to do.
"If it were something belonging to the Yeats family, I would naturally give way. After all, the Yeats family let down Estelle and her mother.
"But Radiance is a gift from my friend. It has nothing to do with the Yeats family, yet she still insists on snatching it... I can’t possibly let my friend down."
"How can she be so despicable!" Ms. Sawyer was filled with righteous indignation. "My uncle said our new boss is a talented woman—she knows design, has great taste, and possesses long-term vision. Previously, there was a variety show that no one was optimistic about, but the boss insisted on investing. Later, it turned out that the show was indeed chosen by that very friend.
"Only you possess such foresight! Estelle Lockwood is just a clinging vine who relies on men. How could she possibly compare to you?"
Claire didn’t remember this variety show incident, but she figured it must have been brought up in their correspondence during the years she and Nathaniel Sloan were pen pals.
Ms. Sawyer continued, "My uncle is the boss’s right-hand man. A few years ago, I even heard that the boss and that friend had never met in person. I found it strange before, but now I know—you and the boss were pen pals!"
Hearing this, Claire’s cheeks flushed crimson. She became even more certain that this was a gift from Nathaniel.
As they spoke, the two of them arrived at the reception room.
Not long after, President Kerr, Faye Foster, and a group of core executives arrived along with President Sawyer.
Seeing his niece accompanying Claire, President Sawyer felt a wave of despair. Opting for out of sight, out of mind, he simply walked right back out.
"President Kerr!" Ms. Sawyer greeted him with a face full of smugness.
President Kerr signed a document, appearing quite busy. Hearing her, he nodded. "Ms. Sawyer."
Then, he looked at Claire and offered a friendly nod. "And this is..."
Ms. Sawyer’s eyes lit up, feeling her bright future was right in front of her. She had always resented President Kerr for micromanaging everything. When her uncle had proposed promoting her, it was this very President Kerr who had shot it down, leaving her as a manager with no real power.
Thus, her ego was immensely inflated at the moment. "This is Miss Claire Yeats."
She thought, "How about that? Are you shocked? Shocked that the new boss and I have already become ’friends’?
"I’m the true supporter of the new boss. All you old fogeys can get lost!"
However, the shock and fawning she imagined never came.
President Kerr merely glanced over calmly, as if he were looking at an ordinary passerby rather than the new boss, before going back to signing his documents.
"Ah, I see. So it’s Miss Yeats."
Claire bit her lower lip slightly.
No wonder Ms. Sawyer said this President Kerr was no good and advised her not to put him in an important position once she took control of the company.
To think he would be so cold upon meeting her.
"President Kerr..." Ms. Sawyer, eager to curry favor with Claire, prepared to rebuke him.
But President Kerr beat her to the punch once again. "It’s fine if Miss Yeats is here for a tour. Just keep quiet. You can find a place to sit wherever you like."
Without waiting for them to speak, President Kerr picked up his ringing phone and walked away. "Hello? Alright, I understand..."
Claire bit her lip gently.
Ms. Sawyer placated her. "Miss Yeats, please don’t be anxious. This President Kerr just loves to trip people up. Once my uncle gets here and the handover ceremony begins, no one will dare look down on you!"
Claire sighed. "Earlier, I heard the receptionist say that Estelle had an appointment with President Kerr, and now President Kerr is acting this way toward me... I’m just afraid that Estelle might have said something to him to prejudice him against me, the new boss. That wouldn’t be good for the company."
Ms. Sawyer felt her opportunity had arrived. "That’s simply too much! I will definitely expose President Kerr’s true colors later!"
Would the current boss tolerate him colluding with an outsider to make things difficult for the new boss?
The more Ms. Sawyer thought about it, the happier she became, even failing to hold back a laugh.
Time ticked by. It was already time for the handover, and all the core executives were present.
But no one spoke.
Claire couldn’t help but feel a little anxious, biting her lip slightly. What was going on? Weren’t they supposed to announce the start of the handover ceremony now, then ceremoniously invite her to the center and declare that Radiance belonged to her from now on?
Why wasn’t anyone looking at her?
Ms. Sawyer was also at a loss. She subconsciously asked, "Uncle, why haven’t we started yet?"
"Shut up. Is it your place to speak here?" Meeting Faye Foster’s mocking gaze, President Sawyer shrank his neck. If President Kerr hadn’t said to let his niece stay for the time being, he would have told her to scram immediately so she wouldn’t affect his career prospects.
"The person hasn’t arrived yet, so how can we start?" President Kerr said unhurriedly. "She’s probably a bit busy. Let’s wait a little longer."
And so, the executives continued with their work—signing whatever needed signing and reading whatever needed reading. Astonishingly, not a single person paid any attention to Claire.
Claire lowered her eyes. Who were they waiting for? Could it be... She knew it! Nathaniel was coming!
Other than Nathaniel Sloan, who else could make these Radiance executives wait?
If that were really the case, she should definitely let Estelle see it. Her husband was gifting a company to another woman. Who knew how devastated Estelle would be when that happened?
