Chapter 82 - Chapter 82: Settling in

To June, it felt like a heavy weight had been placed on her shoulders. Being alone in the room made her a bit relaxed.

She rolled around on the bed. It was soft and comfortable, and as she relaxed, the day’s activities replayed in her head.

She had started the day happy. How the day had ended up like this was still a mystery to her.

June rolled off the bed. She felt icky and dirty. The bath she had at the hospital the previous day felt insufficient.

She went to the door and closed it completely.

At the back of her mind, she felt Rauf could come into the room at any time. She didn’t buy the idea that he was completely going to stay away from the room.

After making sure the door was locked, she pulled off her clothes and went into the bathroom.

Due to the emergency of relocating, she hadn’t thought about getting any toiletries before coming. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

She was regretting that decision at the moment. After leaving the mansion, she should have asked Rauf to take her to a supermarket to get the things she might need.

But there was no point crying over spilled milk. She planned to just wash her body and get what she needed the next day.

She didn’t want to owe him anything more than she already did.

The bathroom was set as if it were used by a couple.

There were two sets of everything in the room. Two brushes, two sponges, two shaving sticks.

June picked one of the brushes up, looking at it with scrutinizing eyes.

This was surely the brush that was being used by Rauf, but the other brush was new.

She had no idea what to make of it.

Could Rauf be having a visitor or something?

She picked up the new brush. She was going to borrow everything that was new and return it to Rauf after going shopping.

Soon, she was done brushing and taking a bath.

After that, she moved to the closet. She planned on arranging some of her clothes in it.

Anything to keep her busy and stop herself from thinking about the day’s activities.

Her phone chimed, and she ignored it.

Her stomach growled.

She let out a soft curse.

Instead of thinking about anything else, she focused her attention on the closet door. When she pulled it open, there were a few shirts in it, and on the other side were female dresses.

Confused and curious, June stared at the dresses.

Why would Rauf need a dress?

She tried to tell herself that it was none of her business what Rauf did or did not do.

But she failed woefully.

She picked up one of the dresses, examining it with scrutinizing eyes.

Standing in front of the mirror, she placed it right in front of her.

It fit well.

A bit too small for Amie.

That meant it couldn’t be Amie’s.

Yet, it brought another problem.

Could Rauf actually be...

She shook her head.

Rauf was none of her business.

"Rauf is none of my business," she told herself in the mirror.

Then, she pushed the dresses closer to his shirts and placed some of her clothes in the closet.

Satisfied, she got dressed in a big shirt and jeans.

Yet, her stomach growled again, informing her that she couldn’t keep ignoring the fact that she was hungry.

Her phone also chimed repeatedly. It rang, too.

With a heavy sigh, she picked up the phone.

It was Chris.

Been calling, but you haven’t been picking.

Did you get to Rauf’s place safely?

Have you eaten?

Please reply to my messages or call me back. Mother is worried about you.

June sneered.

Well, she should be worried.

After pushing her daughter into the hands of the man she hated most, she deserved to be worried about her.

June placed the phone in her pocket and put it on silent.

Schooling her features, she practiced the best facial expression she planned on wearing whenever she came across Rauf.

Finally, she opened the door and followed the path Henson had taken her through.

Unlike the numerous big houses she had stayed in, this place was emptier than the rest.

It felt like no one lived in it.

June could hear the sound of her footsteps echoing.

When she got to the living room, Henson was bent over the dining table, arranging things.

He stood upright immediately he caught sight of June.

"I was just about to call you, ma’am."

"There’s no need to call me ma’am." June waved. "My name is June."

Henson nodded. "Your dinner is ready, ma’am."

June frowned.

Hadn’t she just asked him not to call her ma’am?

She looked around, trying to see if Rauf would appear.

But the table Henson was setting seemed to be for just one person.

"Where is Rauf?"

Henson continued what he was doing. "The boss is busy."

The piece of information was supposed to make her feel at ease. At least she wouldn’t be seeing his face for a few more hours, or probably for the rest of the day, but she felt the opposite.

"Busy with what?"

Henson was done. "I have no idea, ma’am." He focused his attention on the food. "The boss bought you dinner from one of the best restaurants in town and apologized that he couldn’t give you a homemade dinner."

Seeing the slight frown on her face, Henson continued. "The boss is planning to hire more staff before the end of the week."

But June didn’t care about that now.

All she could think about was whether Rauf was ignoring her or giving her some privacy.

If she were being honest, he had been strange all day.

He hadn’t pestered her about being his wife again.

He hadn’t talked about the baby.

He hadn’t disturbed or forced her to do anything against her will.

Which was very strange.

Could he be planning something?

Probably trying to catch her off guard.

June smirked.

That must be his plan.

But before he did, she had to make her stand.

"I want to see Rauf."
