A satisfied smile appeared on Chen Jue’s face as he watched his Skill improve.
Just then, a burly guy from the Self-Discipline Club approached, eyeing Chen Jue with curiosity. "Dude, you’re a beast!" he exclaimed eagerly. "Forty high pull-ups in one go!"
"Are you a graduate student or a Ph.D. candidate? Want to join our Self-Discipline Club and train together? I noticed your form isn’t quite perfect, and your core strength could use some work."
"If you join our club, we can all learn from each other and improve together!"
The burly club president was in the middle of his enthusiastic pitch, but he was left dumbfounded when he heard Chen Jue was just an auditing student.
Jiang University clubs had a rule: they could only recruit currently enrolled students. Alumni and auditors were ineligible.
However, the guy was probably impressed by Chen Jue’s ability, because he insisted on adding him on WeChat and, while he was at it, pulled him into a group chat called "Jiang University Self-Discipline Club."
Chen Jue didn’t refuse. It was a good opportunity, since he lacked knowledge and guidance in this area.
Joining the group chat and having the chance to occasionally train and exchange tips with the students from the Self-Discipline Club seemed like a good idea. So, he chatted for a few more moments with the burly club president, Wang Xin.
When he learned the guy could do 100 standard pull-ups in one go, Chen Jue couldn’t help but give him a thumbs-up. ’As expected of a top university!’ he thought. ’Talented people are everywhere!’
With freakish strength and shoulder muscles like that, any ailment like frozen shoulder or rheumatism would be pinned down and mercilessly ground into shit.
...
Chen Jue didn’t continue training after that one set of pull-ups. For one, he had already used up most of his energy running around all day.
For another, Zheng Yuan’s girlfriend, Lin Xiaoyue, was incredibly efficient. She had just sent him a list of courses suitable for him to audit.
Chen Jue opened it and took a look. ’Holy cow! There are a ton of them!’
From the Biological Sciences program: *Zoology and Lab*, *Genetics and Lab*, and *Developmental Biology*. From the Athletic Training program: *Kinesiology* and *Sports Massage*. And from the Clinical Medicine program: *Human Anatomy*, *Physiology*, *Biochemistry*, *Pharmacology*, *Pathology*, *Internal Medicine*, *Surgery*, and *Traditional Chinese Medicine*.
All in all, the list covered thirteen courses across three different majors.
Lin Xiaoyue had temporarily filtered out some of the more hardcore subjects like cell and molecular biology. While they touched on human cells, the relevant sections were too brief.
Chen Jue was a little stunned by the sheer number of courses. But then he remembered he didn’t have to take any exams or conduct research. He just needed a basic overview to build a complete logical framework for his own physical training.
So, after sending Lin Xiaoyue a fist-and-palm salute emoji, Chen Jue went online and ordered the young couple some late-night milk tea and snacks to thank them for their help. Then, he hurried back to his apartment, got on his computer, and selected all of those courses on the university intranet.
Pre-ordering the textbooks from the library’s intranet site cost him over 2,000, and he paid another 3,500 in credit fees.
But when he remembered that knowledge was priceless, he didn’t feel the sting of spending several thousand at all.
’Maybe I should set up a data management system to monitor my course progress and my body’s Attribute improvements?’
Chen Jue copied the names of the courses, opened a new document, and imported a data template he’d made previously.
As for the document’s title, Chen Jue cringily dubbed it: "Strongest Human Training Plan V1.00".
A man’s gotta be a man!
No matter how old you get, you never outgrow that passionate, dorky spirit!
After he finished drafting the data system, Chen Jue showered, got into bed, and started daydreaming about his wonderful new life as an auditing student at Jiang University.
Just as he was drifting off, Chen Jue heard a strange noise.
Wangyang Apartment was an old building with poor soundproofing. The university couple renting the room next door were probably getting busy, and the sounds came right through the wall.
Most college students who rent off-campus instead of staying in the perfectly good dorms are just looking for a place to live with their girlfriend and have some fun.
The sound was especially penetrating in the dead of night.
It wasn’t that Chen Jue was a pervert. Right now, his mind was solely focused on grinding Attributes and studying; he was just an unwilling, passive listener.
He tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. With no other choice, he rummaged through his bag, found a pair of headphones he hadn’t used in ages, and put them on. Finally, the unwanted noise was blocked out.
’Damn it!’
’If only I could close my ears like I can my eyes!’ Chen Jue grumbled to himself, and before he knew it, he had drifted off to sleep.
