William Quinn looked at him mockingly. "You’re nothing but a piece of trash right now. What makes you think you have what it takes to fight me?"
Nathaniel Monroe glared at him furiously but said nothing more. For William right now, killing him would be as easy as crushing an ant. Taking a deep breath to suppress his emotions, he asked, "What exactly do you want?"
William pulled up a chair and sat down, his blue eyes glinting with amusement as he watched him. "My baby asked me to let you go. Since I promised her, I’ll definitely keep my word. Moreover, before you leave, I’ll see to it that you fully recover your health."
Nathaniel’s hands clenched into fists. "You animal," he said through gritted teeth. "You don’t deserve—"
"But my baby said she would stay here and be with me forever," William interrupted.
A sharp pang of heartache seized Nathaniel. He remembered how Iris Yates had been forced into this, and he hated himself immensely for his own incompetence.
"Walker Grant and I have always been working together. You should know about that, right?" The excitement in William’s eyes deepened.
Nathaniel had no idea what the man was playing at, but a flash of unease settled in his chest.
Seeing him stay silent, William continued, "Hah... But you probably didn’t know that after I left Breyburn, we kept cooperating. I helped him hold off the Holloway Family, and in return, he kept my secret, hiding my and my baby’s location from all of you."
Upon hearing this, Nathaniel’s eyes widened in shock. "Impossible!" he instinctively retorted. But as soon as the words left his mouth, he felt that something was off. A wave of dizziness washed over him; he couldn’t comprehend where this strange feeling was coming from.
William, however, spoke with a thrill in his voice, "I can show you the proof. The emails between us are all the evidence you need. He’s your best friend, yet he hid her whereabouts from you. For Chloe Reed’s sake, he’s willing to backstab everyone."
How could William not be thrilled? After all, this was already the second time he had told Nathaniel all this!
The last time, he had thought he could use this information to manipulate Nathaniel into dealing with Walker Grant. But to his absolute surprise, Nathaniel had already known! Nathaniel had even coordinated an inside-outside attack to have people invade his island! Thank goodness he had made preparations in advance so Nathaniel’s plan didn’t succeed, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to see his baby anymore.
After returning, he had decisively changed his strategy. He had fed Nathaniel an amnesia-inducing drug, followed by hypnotic suggestion, making him forget his conversation with Walker and everything about acting as an inside man! And now, he was finally putting his plan into action!
As if trying to bewitch him, William murmured faintly, "He’s known we were on the island this whole time. He kept it a secret from you and Chloe Reed. Doesn’t that make you furious?"
Nathaniel’s hands clenched into tight fists. He didn’t want to believe a single word of this, but William genuinely produced the evidence. When he saw those emails, a sense of absurdity flashed through his mind. The feeling of wrongness became even more pronounced, yet he couldn’t pinpoint the source of this sensation. After the confusion faded, only boundless fury remained in his heart.
Walker had actually lied to him!
Walker knew full well how desperately he wanted to find Iris Yates, and even Chloe Reed had constantly been worried about her. Yet, Walker had kept it a secret! In Walker’s eyes, what did their brotherhood even mean? And what did he think of Chloe?!
Satisfied to see the exact reaction he wanted, William stood up. "Rest up and heal your wounds. Once you’re fully recovered, I’ll send you away. For my baby’s sake, I won’t lay another finger on you. But if you dare to come back, I won’t hesitate to kill you right then and there. I’ll make sure you never see her again!"
